Purple and Yellow Beauty Editorial with Eyen from Muse

Last week one of my images was used to introduce the beauty issue of Styleology Magazine, and therefore I am sharing them here with you all! The images were originally created on commission for TandM magazine, and the theme was "Purple and Yellow". To me, this was a bit of an odd theme because it seemed so broad. Yet even just giving a few parameters (like color scheme) can really get the creative juices flowering. I decided a clean beauty shoot playing on these complimentary colors could be effective. When talking with my makeup artist, we felt that because this was going to be a summer editorial, perhaps we should use 'bathing caps' (or other head coverings) as another uniting theme in the editorial.

For editorials you don't want all the images to feel too similar, and yet at the same time they need to feel like parts of a whole. We decided to use the purple background, purple/yellow makeup, and bathing caps as a way to unite the story. We kept the lighting the same, the model the same, and tried to use colored nails as another way to unite the story. I've included some of my favorite images below, but you might also want to check out the slideshow for some images that didn't make the cut of 'my favorites'.

For this shoot I worked with Eyen, a model from Muse NYC with an incredible bone structure. Although she is not a 'new' model, she didn't have any beauty shots like these in her portfolio. Most of them were very natural.. natural makeup, natural hair, and natural lighting. My hair stylist and makeup artist, Johnny Gonzalez, looked at my choices of model and immediately picked Eyen. He could tell that her beautiful eyes, full lips, and amazing bone structure would be perfect for this type of (somewhat more commercial) beauty shoot. Her skin was smooth and heavenly.. and although I did have to do retouching, it was a pleasure to perfect such already perfect skin and tonalities. I usually work with very pale models or very dark-skinned models in my shoots. Eyen had a beautiful tonality of skin... it was warm and really accented the colors of the makeup. Johnny was great because he also created almost all of the headpieces in this editorial! I'm so impressed by creative individuals with my areas of creativity! I'm only creative when it comes to photography! 😀

So, below are my favorite images and a few others that were cut... ENJOY!
